Its only words ...

Must confess, this song had the most "to-the-point" lyrics. I am always so impressed with linguists and linguistics - not that I am one, but it just seems really good! I should also admit that I have not made any serious efforts towards picking up a new language or words - ever since (per my assumption) I attained adolescence.

Today, a word randomly struck me from some webpage hosted on a box in Sunnyvale. Not that its a glamorous, but it surely brings back bittersweet memories from the relatively gaudy parts of my life.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the word of the day (call it month/year/decade - as if I care!) is - Mamihlapinatapai.

No, it does not originate from the idli state. Nor its immediate neighbors. Wikipedia describes it as: Mamihlapinatapai (sometimes spelled mamihlapinatapei) is a word from the Yaghan language of Tierra del Fuego, listed in The Guinness Book of World Records as the "most succinct word", and is considered one of the hardest words to translate.[1] It describes "a look shared by two people with each wishing that the other will initiate something that both desire but which neither one wants to start."

Each time I read the previous line, I can possibly think of a different situation - which, recursively, is similar to all the others. Bah, too much object orientation!
